All of the Chronic Market’s vendors are creatives suffering from ME/CFS, but we’ve all had different journeys, different losses, different paths to adapting to our new realities. UK essential oil spray maker Saskia Hallett of Saluba Mist has had a challenging journey, but making the most of it by making a product that heals.
I’m a mum, wife, optimist (most of the time), and former teacher who grew up in S.E Asia with the jungle as my garden and later on moved to England. I have always loved nature and travelling, adventure and cultures and I’m grateful I have had a life rich in these, especially as I really now know how precious it all was.
I’m in my late 30’s and after contracting dengue fever and pneumonia whilst living abroad and working hard I got really, really ill. After a very slow recovery I was diagnosed with post viral CFS and Fibromyalgia and then that has since become M.E with Fibromyalgia. We came back to England and for the last 2 years life has been really challenging and I’ve had to knock teaching on the head (for now?), but I have met the most wonderful people in my recovery, who I know I never would have met otherwise, life has a way of showing us that it can be very beautiful even if with all our challenges one might not see it that particular day.
I look to nature to help me heal whether physically or emotionally and that led me on the path of learning about essential oils and their therapeutic benefits. I also think beautiful things can help cheer anyone up especially if there is love and thought behind it so each of my room and linen mists are individually handmade with 100% pure essential oils. They are made without chemicals or any nasty ingredients. Looking after our environment is something I’m very passionate about and I’m super excited to say that for each bottle sold an African hardwood Mvule tree will be planted offsetting your carbon footprint.”
