For years I have been a skeptic of the extensive use of synthetics perfumes and aromas in everyday products. Stories are regularly released announcing some or other synthetic chemical has a concerning effect on our health or the environment. Knowing this I used to avoid perfumes altogether. Scented products became distasteful. With this suspicion, though well grounded, I could not appreciate perfume made naturally. Being reminded that God intended aroma’s to be beautiful I became motivated to rediscover perfume from a natural perspective.
And so my journey began by tincturing dried flowers and vanilla beans in my bedroom. Back then it was a hobby. Then one day I got sick. ME/CFS, Lyme, Mold, and who knows what else. I had to stop working my full time and demanding software development job and focus on rest and healing. But I sporadically get some energy and I knew I needed something I could pursue, at my own pace, on an unpredictable schedule and no stress. That is when I decided to turn my hobby into a little business.
Since then I have learned so much about the world of natural aromatics. Over the course of a year I was able to formulate four perfumes and make a few sales. Along the way origami flower bouquets grew rather organically out of my perfume endeavors. It started as a need for props for pictures. My friends and family liked these so much I decided to add origami to my perfume package and bouquets to my offerings.
